Beginners

Christmas is getting closer and closer, and so is the New Year... 2012, wow, that's scary... not because of some prophecy, but because it is new, even if it is a couple of thousands years old. We have to make all these resolutions again...
Las Navidades están cada vez más cerca, igual que el Nuevo Año...2012, guau, da miedo... no por cierta profecía, sino porque es nuevo, aunque tenga un par de miles de años. Tenemos que escribir los propósitos otra vez...

eating healthy, being on time, going to the gym
comer sano, llegar en hora, ir al gimnasio


We'll be new, just as the year, we are suppossed to start over, we'll be beginners once again.
Vamos a ser nuevos, como cada año, se supone que tenemos que volver a empezar, seremos principiantes una vez más.

And the thing is, even though we might be quite excited about our resolutions, most of the times, deep inside, we know the following year we'll be writing the same ones, waiting some day our future ourselves might actually achieve those goals; this makes me wonder if going to be beginners during our entire lives.
Y la cosa es que, aunque podemos estar bastante entusiasmados con nuestros propósitos, la mayoría de las veces, en el fondo sabemos que al año siguiente vamos a escribir los mismos, esperando que algún día los futuros nosotros lleguen a cumplir esos objetivos; esto hace que me pregunte si vamos a ser principiantes toda la vida.

Well, my answer is YES, always. This is not something to be sad about; it means we always have everything to learn, it means we cannot ever get to know ourselves, because we're changing every minute; it also means we need to stick to what remains for our short eternity (that is 80 years, avarage), and understand that the only things that remain are people (always taking into account people are not things).
Bueno, mi respuesta es SÍ, siempre. No es algo por lo que tengamos que sentirnos mal; significa que siempre tenemos todo por aprender, significa que no podemos llegar a conocernos, porque cambiamos todo el tiempo; también significa que necesitamos acercarnos a lo que se queda durante nuestra corta eternidad (unos 80 años, de media), y entender que las únicas cosas que se quedan son las personas (siempre teniendo en cuenta que las personas no son cosas).

We need to realize others are always beginners as well as we are, and so be indulgent to them, never forgeting that, even if we would like to think otherwise, we seldom have an idea of what's going on in somebodyelse's mind.
Necesitamos darnos cuenta de que los demás son siempre principiantes, como nosotros, y ser comprensivos con ellos, sin olvidarnos de que, aunque nos guste pensar lo contrario, rara vez tenemos idea de lo que pasa por la mente del otro.

So my resolution is easy, it has to do with me as well as with everyone else, and it is simple, as well as hard and rewarding; next year, I'm going to do what i try every day: work for my relationship with those i love. It might sound corny, predictable, trite, or even look like i have lack of ambitions, but it is what i want to be good at, before becoming a journalist, or getting good marks at collage, i want to be happy with myself and those who stick around...
Así que mi propósito es facil, tiene que ver conmigo tanto como con el resto del mundo, y es simple, difícil y gratificante; el año que viene voy a hacer lo que intento cada día: trabajar por mi relación con aqullos que quiero. Puede que suene cursi, predecible, común o incluso que me faltan ambiciones, pero es esto en lo que quiero ser buena, antes que convertirme en periodista, o tener buenas notas en la universidad, quiero ser feliz conmigo misma y con esa gente que se queda...

Summer Girl

Whenever I open my closet, the idea I have in my mind (that never comes true) is Serena Van der Woodsen, at least most of the times. But, of course, my hair doesn't behave and my clothes aren't Chanel, however, I'm usually satisfied with the result.
Summer is different... it's the season in which my beach and surfer side blossoms, it's the time to change the perfect wavy haired blonde girl from GG for the blonde girl with the hair full of salt from 90210.
La mayoría de las veces, el ideal que tengo en la cabeza cuando abro el armario (que nunca se cumple, claro) es Serena Van der Woodsen. Ni el pelo se amolda, ni la ropa es de Chanel, pero suelo salir satisfecha de casa.

Pero el verano es distinto... es la estación que saca mi lado más playero, surfero... podría decirse. Es el momento de cambiar en mi cabeza a la rubia de ondas perfectas de GG por la rubia de pelo ensalitrado de 9021.
